URGENT: Chaperones Needed for Junior Band Camp

This is an urgent call for parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle support.  We need 5 more chaperones to participate in our Junior Band Camp on March 6 and 7, 2018, and we need these chaperones confirmed by Wednesday, February 28 or else the trip will be cancelled.
If you are able to chaperone, please contact Mr. Windsor immediately at jwindsor@redeemer.ab.ca.
Students who are assigned Wall Climbing or Horseback Riding as an activity will be sent home with consent forms for those activities on Wednesday, February 28 at the latest, and must be returned by Monday March 5.
If you need to submit an updated Consent Form, download it here.  If you still need to submit fees, do so immediately using the online fee payment system.

Last Week of Coffee Sales!

This really cool fundraiser provides benefits to all Fine Arts including music by enabling the Fine Arts Parents to subsidize trips, purchase supplies or licenses, and otherwise support students in the Fine Arts.
We have our own brand of coffee (sort of) thanks to Rebel Bean.  Buy your coffee by the end of the week!  Last chance, and no late orders!  Support Our Fine Arts Now!

Music Festival Solos/Duets/Quartets/Ensembles Plan

This year we have over 30 registrations in the Highwood Music Festival, and March will be a very busy music month.  Some performances will require parents to transport students themselves, and others will be transported by the school.
In the email that directed you to this blog, you will also see a link to a file that gives you details of what is happening when for Festival, and how the school is supporting your student(s).  This information is not being posted on this blog to keep your student's information confidential.  Please consult that file for more details.
Thank you for supporting your students as they enter into this unique performing opportunity!  I am truly excited to hear them perform their work!

Grade 7 Concert Band: Airdrie Band Festival Update

As you may recall, the Science portion of the Grade 7 Band and Science Trip was cancelled.  We now have final details for the Airdrie Rotary Festival of the Performing Arts, and how our Grade 7 students will be participating.
Please submit the new Consent Form for participating in the trip.  The schedule for the trip is as shown to the right.
Students will be performing "All Ye Young Sailors" and "Ancient Moon".
We are also in need of at least 5 chaperones for this trip.  If you can help on this day trip, please let Mr. Windsor know on the Consent Form.
8:15 AM - Depart High River (please get your students to the school by this time), transportation provided by Good Company Travel
9:30 AM - Arrival at Bert Church Theatre in Airdrie, immediately enter the warmup room
10:20 AM - Perform in the Festival
10:40 AM - Workshop in the Music Room
11:00 AM - Listen to other performances.
11:30 AM - Travel to lunch options including Wendy's, Tim Hortons or Canadian Pizza Unlimited.
12:30 PM - Travel to Genesis Place for Recreation Time
2:30 PM - Depart Airdrie.
3:30 PM - Arrive at Notre Dame Collegiate.  PSTIs in the evening.

The Month of March is the Start of Marching Band

Notre Dame Collegiate will be marching in the Little Britches Parade scheduled for May 19 and the Okotoks Parade scheduled for June 16.  This means we start our marching unit in March.
All Grade 7 students will participate in this unit.  Grade 8 students are also welcome to march in the parade with the Grade 7s, and those who elect to do so will be given the music to learn upon their request.
Please make sure your student has appropriate clothing, including plain white undershirt, black pants (not tights), and running shoes (black running shoes would be most preferred, but we will accept any at this point).
Running shoes will be needed for every band class beginning March 19.

Assignments and Expectations

Please note that your students have been assigned playing tests that they must submit using AudioFile.  They are all aware of which playing test they selected, and their piano accompaniments have been made available to them through Google Drive.
Grade 7 Concert Band Students - Your AudioFile playing test of "All Ye Young Sailors" was due Friday, February 16.  Please submit them immediately.
Grade 8/9 and 10/11/12 Students - If you are not participating in Festival, your List B piece is due March 22.  If you are participating in Festival, your Festival piece's live performance will suffice, and so a recorded performance is not required.
Students are also expected to complete a portion of Breezin' Thru Theory and Composing.  These are now all past due, and need to be caught up if they are not already:
  • Grade 7s should be done to the end of Chapter 2 in Breezin' Thru Theory.
  • Grade 8/9s should be done to the end of Chapter 3 in Breezin' Thru Theory.
  • Senior High should be done to the end of Chapter 4 in Breezin' Thru Theory.
  • All students should have submitted two composition assignments through Breezin' Thru Composing.
Students are also required to have appropriate performance attire.  For Grade 7s, black pants, black shoes, black socks and a white undershirt to be worn under the uniform jacket will be required.  For Highwood Music Festival performers, professional dress is required, but the uniform is not.
