Welcome to the NDC Music DePartment
for the 2022-2023 School Year!

We have a growing music program, and I'm so excited for your students to join the program this year!  We have many things already on the go, so lets get started.

Instrument Rental Night - September 6, 2022 at 6:30 PM

Join the September 6 Instrument Rental Night Stream (No Camera Necessary)
All Grade 7 students, any students new or returning to the music program, Strings students, and students who rent larger instruments should be at this meeting.  Here is where you will rent your instrument, either from Long & McQuade or Notre Dame Collegiate.

Students in all grades already know their assigned Concert Band instrument, however Strings players need to meet at lunch on Tuesday, September 6 to discuss their selections.

If you are renting a flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, violin or viola, we recommend renting that instrument through Long & McQuade.  They have the best plans for the best rates for those instruments, including an insurance policy that Notre Dame Collegiate simply cannot provide.

If you are renting an oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, baritone saxophone or tuba, or if your student is intending on utilizing any of our percussion or electronic equipment (including Steel Pans), you will also need to attend the rental night, but you will likely be renting from Notre Dame Collegiate instead.  (You can rent these from Long & McQuade, but that's expensive).

Percussionists in Grades 8 and above are expected to have their own drumsticks, hard plastic mallets and yarn mallets.  Senior High Percussionists should also have their own timpani mallets.  These can all be purchased through Long & McQuade.

Please plan to be at Notre Dame Collegiate on September 6, 2022 at 6:30 PM to ensure your student has an instrument as soon as possible.
If you cannot attend, a Video Link will be available on the NDC Instrument Rentals Page.

High River Catholic Fine Arts Parents Association
Annual General Meeting - You are members!

As a parent of a student in a Fine Arts program at Notre Dame Collegiate, you are members of the High River Catholic Fine Arts Parents Association, affectionately known as HRCFAPA.  They will be holding their Annual General Meeting on September 19, 2022 at 7:30 PM at Notre Dame Collegiate.  If you are here for the Disney Information Night, you will already be here!  A video link will be provided for those who cannot attend in person.

Please note that our various Fine Arts Departments including Art, New Media, Drama, and of course Music cannot offer the variety of opportunities they do without support from parents and the HRCFAPA.  They have positions that are being vacated (their students have graduated and moved on), and we need to fill them with parents like you.  Please consider volunteering here!

Opus Administrative Assistant

Picture
We are using a new system designed specifically for Notre Dame Collegiate to manage our music department.  This will include Class Enrollments, Assignments, Instrument Management, Practice Logs, Hall of Fame Points, Messages to Mr. Windsor, Musical Volunteer Activities, and much more.  The system has been designed to allow Mr. Windsor the opportunity to differentiate his instruction for each student more effectively.
By now students will have already added themselves to Opus.  Over the next week, they will orient themselves around it.  This will include the following steps;
  1. Signing in and setting up their profile
  2. Enrolling in all classes they will participate in, even after-school programs (this must be concluded by the end of September 7, 2022 as we will begin scheduling those after-school programs.
  3. Clicking the links to add themselves to the appropriate Google Classrooms, BandLab Classrooms and SightReadingFactory Classrooms
  4. Adding instrument details for organizational and insurance purposes
Throughout the year, they will also use it for the following activities;
  • Accessing and downloading their tasks and assignments
  • Finding their Sheet Music
  • Logging Practice Minutes (especially Senior Band students who are double-booked)
  • Accessing Theory, Sight-Reading, and Recording Tools
  • Signing up for Musical Volunteer Opportunities
  • Sending Messages to Mr. Windsor that can easily be tracked
  • and much more!
It is our hope to allow Parents to be added to Opus in the near future.

Department Information (Course Outlines)

This year the Course Outline is entirely digital, and is on this website.  Here are a few links that will help you navigate the same information as is usually available in our Department Information Booklet;

Seniors Go To California

Grade 10s, 11s and 12s are currently preparing for a trip to California.  We will be hosting a Family Information Night where at least one adult for each participating student needs to attend to be fully informed about the trip.  This family information night is September 19, 2022 at 6:30 PM, and is an extremely important component of preparation for the trip.
Families of Senior High Music Students, please make the Family Information Night on September 19, 2022 at 6:30 PM at Notre Dame Collegiate a priority.

Thank you for supporting your students in music!

We are so pleased to work with your students!  Through their time in the music department they will not only enhance their love of learning and love of music, but also develop into strong members of a warm and embracing community.  Thank you for supporting them as they discover more of themselves through and in music!
