2021-2022 Wrap Up

It has been an Incredible Year.
But We Have to Wrap It Up.

First, I wish to offer one final thank you to all the students I've had the pleasure of working with, as well as the support of their family and friends.  It was a challenging year to navigate, but we ended up very strong on the end.  I'm going to miss you all over the next 2 months!

What To Do With Instruments

If you are renting an instrument from Notre Dame Collegiate, they are already due to have been returned.  Please return them to the school immediately, as Mr. Windsor needs to log them for maintenance.  If you keep the instrument past June 28, 2022, you will be charged for the summer rental, which is 20% of the school-year rental.

If you are renting from Long & McQuade, keep your instrument.  It is likely that you are on a rent-to-own program, and as long as that remains uninterrupted, you will also maintain your insurance policy as well.  It is a good idea to take it in for maintenance, but don't return it.  If you take it in for maintenance, make sure you keep your consumables like neckstraps, reeds, and care kits at home.

If you own your own instrument, it is still a good idea to take it in for maintenance.  Likewise, keep your consumables like neckstraps, reeds and care kits at home while your instrument is at the shop.

Any Other Wrap Up From This Year?

The following items should also be returned to the school by the end of Friday;

• Sheet Music for "Mars", "Black is the Colour of My True Love's Hair", "Second Suite in F", "Tsunami", "Any Way You Want It", "Sing, Sing, Sing", "Prelude and Primal Danse", "Mission: Impossible", "Shepherd's Hey" and "In The Mood".  All other sheet music may be kept by the student.
• All Sound Innovations books
• Flute Win-D-Fenders
• Any Outstanding Homework

The best way to find out what homework is outstanding is to check PowerSchool.  All assignments' marks have been updated here.  While most students have little else to do, a few students did not get a chance to hand in their written assignments in the last week of classes, and still need to do so by the end of the day on June 24.  No additional extensions can be permitted past that point.

Anything I should Know for Next Year?

I can give only a few ideas of what to expect; schedule changes and band trips.

There will be some minor alterations to the after-school schedule next year as we have some students who have opted to participate in the Round-Up/Stetsons Showband program.  As that program tends to rehearse on Wednesday nights, we will change our evening schedule.  While this is a predicted schedule, it is still subject to change, although I will try not to make any adjustments.  That way you can plan your Septembers.

• Concert Bands stay scheduled inside the regular timetable.
• Tuesdays after school - Junior Panorama
• Tuesday evenings (5:30 PM - 7:00 PM) - Senior Panorama
• Wednesdays after school - Stage Band
• Thursdays after school - Strings

As for band trips, know that we are actively pursuing a California Trip for Grade 10-12 students, and have preliminary approval for the trip.  I am anticipating a fee of $1500, and will need a deposit of at least $100 by the middle of September.  Please don't submit this deposit at this time.  The trip will happen in May of 2023 pending final approval. 
For Grade 8/9 students, Pioneer Ranch is a band camp that has built many fond memories, and I intend to add to them in March/April of 2023 this coming year.  Likely the cost for such a trip will be around $150.

We will also be shifting away from Discord, and moving to a more permanent in-house solution that will not be subject to the whims and fancies of technology.  If your student is interested in getting started with it, they can make their profiles at https://opus.ndcfinearts.ca.
