UPDATE on May 19, 2023

We continue to prepare for a Little Britches Parade on Saturday, May 20, 2023.  Expected temperatures during the parade will be 20-24 degrees Celsius which is quite warm for a parade, so bring sunscreen and sunglasses.

Please read below for the details you need for Parade Day.

Little Britches Parade Day - Saturday, May 20, 2023

All students arrive at the St. Francis deSales Church at 8:45 AM.  Meet at the Timberwolf on the map below.
The streets accessing the church will be blocked off, so it would be best to drop off your students along 10 Avenue SW and have students cross the greenspace to get to the church.
Students are responsible for bringing their own instruments.
Mr. Windsor will bring all percussion, tubas and baritone saxophones to the church so you do not have to.

Parade Route and Meeting Location

Our participation may change if we don't see enough improvement in the air quality that day.  I will be sending an email and updating this blog early on Saturday morning to either confirm that we are marching, or that we will not be participating.

Hank Leeferink, Parade Marshall, made a special visit to NDC yesterday to check on our students.  It's obvious that while the parade organizers absolutely love having us in the parade, they also care deeply for the health and safety of our musicians.  We do the same, so we will monitor the air quality accordingly.

This year we will not be participating in the Battle of the Bands due to external circumstances, so we will focus only on the best performance we can do for the Parade only.  Students have been working on memorizing their music for success in the parade ... families can support their musicians by encouraging their memorization practice at home.

The performance will be complete by noon, and all Marching Band participants are invited to George Lane Park following the parade for free lunch courtesy of the Highwood Lions Club.  Your NDC Music Jacket is your ticket to free food.

What you Need for Success

  • A Working Instrument
  • Proper Footwear: Running shoes or cross-training shoes (for this performance they need not be black, they just need to provide good support).  Flats and Board Shoes should not be used.
  • Light white undershirt: It will be warm, so thick layers is not the best idea.  Our NDC Music Jackets will help protect students from the elements.
  • Black Pants
  • Sunscreen: We'll be outdoors for much of the morning, so please protect your winter-lightened skin!  Sunglasses will be acceptable for the parade route.
  • Water: Mr. Windsor will have lots of water, but students are encouraged to bring water themselves as well.

We're looking forward to showcasing our students on May Long Weekend!  Thank you, as always, for your support of your musicking students!
