Disney Trip Travel Day!

Please meet at Door 15 by Concourse D/E in the Calgary Airport, as indicated by the Timberwolf on the image below:
Airport Meeting Place Map

Communication While in Disneyland

Mr. Windsor will be communicating with everyone by way of a Discord Server called The Bugler and cellphones.  Students and families are encouraged to join the Discord Server or use the Web Portal for the Discord Server to join the conversation.  You do not need a Discord account to use the Web Portal, but you do if you wish to join the Server.  Please note the server will be closed shortly after the trip.

Go to The Bugler Discord Server and Web Portal

Packing Hints and Facts

  • Every student will be able to one Standard Article Carry-On, and one Personal Article Carry-On.  New as of May 1, all students get one checked luggage, however some of that is being consumed by our equipment bags.  Read below for details.
  • Checked Luggage maximums are 62" (158cm) of combined linear dimensions and 50 lbs. (23kg).  Anything larger incurs an extra cost.  Mr. Windsor requires some people's Checked Luggage requirement to be taken up by instruments and equipment.  11 passengers will need to use their checked luggage for instruments.  All students are encouraged to shared Checked Luggage spaces to accommodate those with large instruments and equipment attached to them.
  • Standard Article Carry-on Luggage maximums are 21.5"x15.5"x9" (55cmx40cmx23cm).  Anything larger must be checked.
  • Personal Article Carry-on Luggage maximums are 17"x13"x6" (43cmx33cmx16cm).  Anything larger is considered at least a Standard Article Carry-on.
  • If you travel with liquids or gels in containers over 100mL/100g (3.4oz) in your carry-on baggage you will have these items confiscated at the security checkpoint.
  • Other things you can wear and carry on with you include a small purse measuring no more than 25cm x 30cm x 14cm (10in x 12in x 5.5 in), a coat, hat and sunglasses, and snacks (all food must be wrapped or in a container)

What To Pack

  • Passport and other appropriate travel documentation, including any COVID documentation as discussed below.
  • Working Instrument, Sheet Music (Beneath the Canopy, Jana's Dance and Spiderman) and Pencil
  • Uniform
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather (Anaheim has been between 15 and 25 Celsius, but also consider wind and rain)
  • Sunscreen
  • Swimsuit
  • Medication (Teachers and Chaperones will not track this for you, you must manage it on your own.  Adults are also not permitted to administer medication of any sort, even over-the-counter medications)
  • Toiletries
  • Camera/Cellphone at your own risk
  • Method of payment (Mr. Windsor has been recommending reloadable VISA gift cards or similar, as the US doesn't work with debit cards) for all meals but breakfasts

Tickets and Park Reservations

Many of you are trying to plan your Disneyland Experience. Very soon I will add some tools you can use to maximize your Disney time.  Please note that on both Friday and Saturday each participant will be required to enter through Disneyland first to activate their Park Hopper Pass, and Park Hopping may begin at 11:00 AM each day.

About the Recording Session

There are a few expectations regarding the recording session students should know and plan for.  They are as follows;

  • No photography in the Disney Backlot.  There is a confidentiality and security reason for this, and they will confiscate materials used to make photos in the backlot.  Please leave your cellphones and cameras at the hotel.
  • Our busses will be our lockers.  When we arrive and have passed through security, they will give us a chance to put together our instruments and any supplies (extra reeds, maintenance tools) we need, but the cases stay on the bus while we are recording.  Percussion sticks and mallets are provided in the session, but it's never bad to bring your own.  There is electronic equipment for our guitarists, but guitarists must have their own patch cables.
  • A video-synced recording of our session will be sent to us following the trip.  It is not for public consumption, so cannot be shared at concerts without consent from Disney.
  • Bring pencils.  They may become very useful tools during our sightreading session.

COVID Protocols

Please note we are flying out-of-country.  If you have proof of vaccination against COVID-19, bring it with you to the airport, even if you meet one of the requirements of someone who does not need such proof.
If such proof of vaccination is not possible, please review the guidelines at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/proof-of-vaccination.html for details of how you can still participate (look one-third of the way down for Noncitizens, Nonimmigrants (Covered Individuals)).  At this point in time, any person under the age of 18 does not require proof of vaccination, and those with documented medical contraindications to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine do not require proof of vaccination.
It is your responsibility to know what documents you are expected to have to enter the US by air, so please stay on top of it!  Mr. Windsor must be at arms length from all such matters.
A note about insurance: We have been given the guidance by our school division that our insurance is very exhaustive, and that additional insurance through Flight Centre is not necessary.  You are still welcome to get additional insurance if you so choose.
