This week Grade 7 Band begins marching!
The marching band unit is a favourite of High River, as our students march in the Little Britches Parade on May Long Weekend, and our residents love it! But we must prepare for it.
Students need to have appropriate footwear for marching. If you are willing to spend some money on proper footwear, that footwear should be cross-training shoes (if you can get all black, bonusses, but health comes before style, so if color is all you can get, so be it). If you wish to be frugal, regular running shoes should do well enough.
Students will be learning about safety and respect during this unit, where music melds with physical activity. There is a certain amount of discipline required to be successful, and how you can help is to help your students memorize their pieces. There are only two, and they're fun to learn. The students will continue to work with the music they performed so well in Airdrie, but new music abounds!
Thanks once again for your support!
Jazz and Steel Pan Trip
We have final details on a trip we have been planning for quite some time! We will be going to perform in Strathmore at our sister school Holy Cross Collegiate’s spring concert. This will help us hone our performances in preparation for our own year-end showcase.
The trip takes place on April 26, 2018, and will include an overnight stay as the evening will go quite late. The intention is also to workshop with Holy Cross students, them sharing their drumline with us, and us our steel pans and jazz activities with them, but this is dependent upon bus driver availability. Student forms are due March 22, 2018, and non-NDC- student forms are due April 11, 2018.
Students will be staying 4 to a room, and adults will be staying 2 to a room. Therefore fees for each will be different. Fees for students will be $35 (includes accommodations, bussing and breakfast), and fees for adults will be $50. The bus driver, who is also a member of the adult ensemble, will travel free. An adult who is willing to pull the trailer in their own vehicle will also be subsidized. Fees are due April 13, 2018.
This should be a fun one-night trip, something only jazz and steel pan members get to enjoy.
Spring Plant Sale - Final Fundraiser of the Year!
Students are reminded that they are responsible for delivering the plants to people who purchase through them.
Your support through these fundraisers is greatly appreciated, but please don't forget to sell plants to people in the wider High River community to support your students in arts education!
Deadline for orders is May 7, 2018 and delivery will take place on May 15, 2018.
